Since the Class 465's removal in V1.10.12, this train is speculated to possibly be removed due to it being third rail only both in real life and in-game, which was the reason given for the removal. This also affects the Class 444 and Class 458.

Speculations of this train being removed have increased due to it being one of the last 3 NGv1 trains in the game, along with the Class 321, and the Class 319. It is additionally the only train without an announced mesh upgrade.

Some players speculate that this train could be replaced with the Class 323, a train that was originally sneak-peeked in 2018, but was not mentioned again, similarly to the Class 365, which replaced the Class 465 however this isn't logical as the 323 and 508 are different types of trains in different families Class 323. However, this replacement is considered unlikely as the Class 365 was chosen as a replacement due to it being from the same family of trains, a factor which does not apply to the Classes 508 and 323.

Some players instead speculated the Class 313, Class 314 or Class 315 could take the spot instead, as they are all from the BREL 1972 and use overhead line electrification. Another plausible replacement could also be the Class 378 as it replaced this train in real life and ran on the same operator.

With the sneak peek of the Class 313 on 4 April 2024, many players see it as confirmed that this train will be replaced with the aforementioned train. If this train was removed, it would be the only train to be both withdrawn from service in real life and in-game.
