History[]

On 14th May 2019, this train was added to the game. More than one year later, on 19th June 2020, the second sneak peek of the refurbished Coxly station showed this train with the new rebranded Stepford Connect livery. On 27th February 2022, the horn for this train was changed. On 20th November 2023, a sneak peek of the Class 158 showed the NGv3 upgrade. Just 5 days later, on 25th November 2023, the Class 158 was meshed.

Trivia[]

  • This is the first and only Stepford Connect train with a 2 coach variant.
  • This was one of the first two Next Generation trains released in the game, the other one being the Class 508 on Waterline.
  • From 8th to 10th May, 2019, this train could be seen on random routes being operated by Beta Testers, before they received a dedicated server.
  • This is the only diesel train in SCR to have cab-end gangways.
  • In-game, the engine is unified to only one sound. In fact, the Class 158s had engine options from two different engine manufacturers: Cummins (NTA855-R1, NTA855-R3), and Perkins (2006-TWH), with noticeable differences of the sounds of both manufacturer’s engines.
    • If actual units are treated as having the same equipment as their SCR appearance, it can be said that Cummins NTA855-R1 is the only confirmed engine for use in SCR’s Class 158, for /9 units numbered 158901-158910. Perkins 2006-TWH engines are only equipped for units numbered 158815-158862, and Cummins NTA855-R3 engines are only equipped for units numbered 158863-158872, which are numbers that aren’t existent in SCR.
  • Transmission shifting (fluid-coupling at 57 MPH) of the two-speed Voith T211rz hydraulic transmission is not reproduced in SCR.
  • The old livery of this train was similar to that of the Class 458/0, since the ends were coloured blue. However, they were not identical.
  • Prior to V1.4.1, there were no 2-car Stop Markers for the /9 variant in any Stepford Connect platform. After the aforementioned update, one was added at Benton Bridge.
  • This was not released as a Previous Generation train with the same livery as the other Stepford Connect trains.
    • This was the first train to be added directly in NGv1 without having been converted from a PG variant.
  • Before V1.10.13, when a player would choose this train in the spawn menu, its destination would display in the preview "Stepford Road" instead of "Not in service" like other trains.
    • However, there are no Stepford Connect routes that terminate there since V1.8, as they now terminate at Leighton City instead.
    • The destination has since been changed to display "Not in service", after its update to NGv3.
  • The /9 variant is one of the shortest trains of SCR, alongside the Class 143/6, the Class 165/0, the Class 171, and the Class 195/0.
  • This train received the new Stepford Connect livery in V1.6.
  • When this train was in beta, the /9 units were numbered as the /1 units.
  • In real life, no units have been numbered as #1580XX, although the variant 158/0 does exist.
  • This train is known for its unusually narrow doors compared to other trains. This is also true in real life.
  • This train was visible in the SCR thumbnail for V1.5, but has since been replaced with the Class 331.
  • This is the only train to detail a hinged door for the cab-end gangways.
  • The sneak peek posted on 20 November 2023 by Community Director tjh44 showcased both mesh upgrades for the 158/0 and 158/9, as well as a new 158/7.
  • The train is the penultimate train to be updated to NGv3 in Stepford Connect, just leaving the Class 321 to be refurbished.
  • Both units share the same code. This is likely due to a coding limitation. This also applies to the both locomotives of the Class 43 and the Class 68, the Class 143/7, the Class 165/1, the AirLink Class 185 double and the Class 195/2.
  • This is the first double unit in which players can walk from one unit to another.
  • The PIS on this train has a blue background and yellow text that is not found on other PIS on trains.
  • In the cab there is a little panel, which includes a display that shows the destination of the train.
  • When the train was converted into NGv3, players were unable to close doors. This bug was later patched.
  • This is currently one of the 2 trains in SCR that has three separate variants servicing the same operator, along with the Class 43 on Stepford Express.
  • As of Version 1.10.13, this train is the most recent train to have received a mesh upgrade. This will be outdated soon, as Version 2.0 will show the mesh of the Class 319 and Class 321.
